I will lift up my eyes to the mountain,
From whence shall my help come...
Psalm 121:1
Vision:
We, as the body of Christ, have a mandate to continue the ministry of the Lord Jesus, to a lost and hurting humanity. Through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit, we are enabled to preach the gospel to the poor, heal the broken hearted, proclaim liberty to the captives, recovery of sight to the blind, set at liberty those who are oppressed and proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. (Luke 4:18-19).
This is the heart and vision of the Exousia Ministries. we will work in concert with volunteers from other local churches, minisries and other institutuins to meet the spiritual needs of those who are incarcerated.
Goal:
It is the goal and desire of Exousia Ministries to have an eternal impact in the lives of men who are imprisoned physically and spiritually. God has raised up this ministry along with countless others to bring the life-changing message of Jesus Christ into every sector of society.
Unfortunately, those who have been incarcerated are often overlooked, and as a result, are forgotten! But, they are included in the great commission Jesus has given the entire Body of Christ.
Go ye therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you, and Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20.
It is our goal, to see lives radically changed through the power of God, and to make disciples of the Lord Jesus who will in turn disciple others.
The psalmist David invites all men everywhere to look "out" of their present circumstances and "up" to the ever-present help of God Almighty. To most of us, this is a faith principle employed in the occasional crisis that is more of a threat to our routine, than our life or family.
Exousia Ministries is a non-profit organization committed to encouraging the incarcerated to gain emotional balance, spiritual wholeness and a future hope.
Many must be taught how to look past their limitations to the "Truth" that can set them free.
To most, these limitations are more than coils of razor wire or the electric fence on the perimeter of a compound. It is anger, resentment, and bitterness. It is the pervading sense of hopelessness that overwhelms the inmateand family alike.
The Inability to deal with the complexities of the criminal justice system inevitably leads to a despair that fuels an ever-increasing spiral downward to a vile de-humanization .The end of this road is a self-hate that often leads to violence of the worst kind.
Observing the system from the outside understandably leads to the conclusion that it is a problem without a solution, a cycle that cannot be broken. Once locked up, the keys should be thrown away, based on all current statistics.
Our truth does not depend on statistics. Where the seed of faith can be planted, hope can grow. Where hope grows, dignity can be found. Where human dignity is respected, God's image in that man is restored, and His will and His way are not far behind.
Hope becomes an essential element for the viability of the family unit when one member is incarcerated. Our ministry then, is to address the faith-needs of the whole family.
As a practical matter, this consists of providing bibles, literature, teachings, to the inmates to stress the importance of living as a responsible Christian lifestyle.
We counsel with the inmate and their families to promote the solidarity and sacredness of the family structure.
For those returning back to the community, liaisons have been strategically established with many local churches to provide the spiritual and material support the families need to reestablish themselves as contributing members of society.
Recidivism is out of control. A plan for successful re-entry must be formulated BEFORE release, and then implemented with follow up by an assigned mentor AFTER release.
Finally, Exousia Ministries provides information for any church or organization interested in getting involved with prison ministry.
It is a mission field. And we are dedicated to building the body of Jesus Christ "inside the fences".
